For writing your answers below, we advise strongly against the use of generative AI. You may of course use generative AI in the music-making process!
“Song” is broadly construed. You may submit music without sung or spoken words, in any musical genre.
The jury for this contest consists of Drs. Murnak, Collins, and Bennett. Their expertise spans multiple genres of music. They will not pay particular attention to team member names/images. Their decisions are final regarding whether to award a prize (quality bar) and to whom.
The outcome of this contest will be announced approximately two months following the deadline. Inquiries about your submission can be addressed to frostai.glitch.me@gmail.com.
If you use a "wholesale generative AI" such as Suno or Udio, we strongly recommend a) providing us a link to the originally generated material so that we can verify the extent to which your submission differs, and b) using a separate stem-splitting service or similar to decompose, rebuild, and reimagine the generated elements. In short, we will not be awarding a prize for convenience over craft.
The song must be original work and not published previously. That is, if you have uploaded the song to platforms such as Spotify, YouTube, or SoundCloud already, it is not eligible for the contest.
One entry per primary Frost AI account is permitted. You may appear as a team member on other submissions. You may list faculty or staff among your team, but they are not entitled to receive a share of the prize. You may list other students and people within and/or beyond Frost/University of Miami, and they are entitled to receive a share of the prize. See point 10.
The song may be something that you have submitted previously as part of your work for Frost/University of Miami. If the previous work constituted a joint project, you must obtain the consent of anyone else involved before submitting, and their names should be included in your team.
In the event that a team of n people wins the prize, the prize will need to be split into n amounts reflecting your relative contributions, which you should agree on ahead of submission.
